WITCHKEEPER

The Witchkeeper is a wanderer from the far West, a mercenary whose path crosses the frontlines without warning or explanation. He appears where the smoke of war rises thickest, moving between armies as though bound by no allegiance. No one knows his true purpose, yet his presence commands both fear and reverence. Soldiers whisper that he is neither man nor ghost, but something older, a revenant bound to the eternal hunt. His bone mask — a fanged skull — conceals his face, and the many skulls strapped to his knees, back, and staff leave no doubt about who he is and what fate awaits those he hunts. Each skull is said to belong to a witch condemned, a trophy and a warning carried into every new battlefield.
On the field of battle, the Witchkeeper seeks out witches wherever they hide. He does not fight for victory or conquest, but for purification. No witch-tainted soul escapes his judgement; all will burn on the pyre. His staff, crowned with bone and iron, serves as both weapon and beacon, guiding him unerringly to corruption. Behind him drifts the scent of scorched flesh and church incense, mingling into a perfume of dread. It is accompanied by a faint sound that follows him always — a whisper, a chime, or perhaps a song no one truly hears. Some claim it is the lament of the witches he has slain, others that it is the hymn of unseen angels who sanctify his work. Whatever its origin, the sound unsettles even the bravest, for it reminds all who hear it that judgement is near.
The Witchkeeper’s justice is absolute. He does not distinguish between battlefield or village, soldier or civilian. If the taint of witchcraft is found, the pyre is raised. His flames are not merely fire but ritual, a cleansing that consumes body and soul alike. To witness his work is to see faith turned into terror, for he believes that only through burning can sin be erased. His words are few, but they strike like scripture carved in ash. “All flames find their sinners,” he declares, and with that, the condemned are cast into the blaze.
Thus he wanders, a solitary figure whose path is marked by smoke and silence. To some, he is saviour; to others, executioner. Yet all agree on one truth: where the Witchkeeper walks, witches perish, and the world trembles beneath the weight of his relentless hunt.
