 Hashilat Militia Command x3

Among the Hashilat, the bearing of a standard or the keeping of the marching rhythm is not a ceremonial honour reserved for decorated veterans. These duties are entrusted to those who can remain visible and resolute when formations begin to break. The volunteers of the Rakta-Sutra Artificers come from distant villages, crowded cities, mountain settlements, and merchant families, often sharing neither dialect nor military tradition. The standard-bearers and musicians bind these disparate people into a single body, giving them something to follow when shouted orders disappear beneath gunfire.

No two Hashilat standards are entirely alike. Some are sewn from temple cloth, household banners, or the bright fabrics once displayed above family shops. Others bear passages from sacred verses and ancient epics, the marks of distant provinces, or the names of communities that armed their sons and daughters for war. Every campaign covers them with soot, blood, and alchemical residue, yet the cloth is never replaced. New fragments are stitched over old wounds until the banner becomes a record of the company itself. When the Hashilat enter a trench ahead of the greater creations of the Rakta-Sutra Artificers, their standard is raised above the smoke to mark the ground that must be taken and held.

Beside them march the war musicians, carrying heavy drums, brass horns, and battered instruments passed down through several generations of service. Their music is neither ornamental nor intended to inspire reckless courage. Each rhythm carries a command: advance, halt, gather, prepare for assault, or clear a path for the approaching engines and alchemical constructs. Amid explosions, poisonous vapours, and the deafening labour of war machines, a familiar drumbeat can reach soldiers who can no longer see their officers or hear a human voice. Many broken Hashilat formations have found one another again by following that sound through the smoke.

Standard-bearers and musicians receive no protection denied to the rest of their comrades. Their heirloom rifles remain slung across their backs, ready for the moment when symbol and signal are no longer enough. If one of them falls, the nearest Hashilat takes up the banner, drum, or horn and continues without ceremony. The individual may be lost, but the company must not lose its direction or its voice.

Follow the cloth when you can see. Follow the drum when you cannot.
