Hashilat Militia

The strength of the Rakta-Sutra Artificers does not rest solely upon their celebrated sages and master alchemists. Behind every masked creator and every impossible construct stand countless ordinary men and women known as the Hashilat. They come from villages, merchant families, mountain settlements, and crowded cities, answering the call not because they are compelled, but because each generation believes it must offer its own hands in defense of the realm.

Unlike the revered Artificers, the Hashilat possess no miraculous gifts. Their rifles are family heirlooms, maintained and rebuilt across generations, each engraved with prayers, sacred verses, or scenes from ancient epics. No two weapons are alike, and many believe that a rifle remembers every warrior who has carried it before. Whether that is faith or truth, I cannot say.

The Hashilat are always the first to enter the battlefield. They scout forgotten roads, seize trenches, and hold shattered ground long enough for the creations of the Rakta-Sutra Artificers to arrive. Their packs carry climbing ropes, entrenching tools, powder flasks, and whatever else is needed to survive where entire armies fail. They prevail not through perfection, but through endurance, ingenuity, and the will to fight when wiser men would retreat.

Many Hashilat never return home. Those who survive seldom bring back wealth, only worn weapons, old scars, and stories too heavy to share beside the family hearth. Yet every year new volunteers step forward with the confidence of youth. They speak little of glory and much of duty. An old instructor once told me, “A master may create a miracle, but only because someone else is willing to die protecting it.” After all I have witnessed, I find no reason to doubt his words.

Not everyone leaves behind a masterpiece. Some become the shield that allows one to endure.
