Gilded Linebreakers

The Gilded Linebreakers are the disciplined bulk of the Auric Collectors’ war efforts, heretic infantry whose loyalty has been purchased, reinforced, and recorded beyond dispute. Most were once soldiers of the Faithful nations, mercenaries, or armed retainers of merchant houses. Debt, disgrace, or quiet contracts delivered them into Mammon’s service, where their lives were not spared, but refinanced. Whatever remained of former oaths was buried beneath gold-inlaid armour and binding agreements etched directly into steel.

Unlike zealots or mad devotees, the Gilded Linebreakers fight with cold professionalism. Their equipment is meticulously maintained, repaired rather than replaced, each piece marked, numbered, and accounted for. Rifles are chosen for precision over spectacle; clubs and maces for their ability to incapacitate without destroying armour, bodies, or valuables. Every engagement is treated as a calculated expense, every casualty measured against projected return. Waste is sin. Inefficiency is heresy.

On the battlefield, the Gilded Linebreakers advance methodically, locking trenches, corridors, and breach points with relentless pressure. They are trained to hold ground not for glory, but for claim. Once a position is secured, it is immediately assessed for value — infrastructure, materials, prisoners, and salvage are tagged even as the fighting continues. Retreat is permitted only when loss exceeds profit, and even then withdrawal is orderly, deliberate, and documented.

In the wider war, the Gilded Linebreakers are the instrument through which greed becomes force. They do not preach Mammon’s doctrine, nor do they question it. They are proof that corruption does not require madness, only incentive. Where they march, war ceases to be chaos and becomes industry, executed one contract at a time.
