Fleshbound Communicators
The Fleshbound Communicator is a body claimed by sacrament rather than breath. He stands enlarged and distorted, not exalted, but sustained by what should have annihilated him. His flesh bears the weight of consecration as stone bears a cathedral: cracked, burdened, yet uncollapsed. Every motion he makes is deliberate, as though the body itself must first ask permission to continue.
Among the Pilgrims of the Blighted Devotion, he is remembered as one who was given more than a man is meant to contain. In the earliest days of their wandering, when relics were still divided and entrusted with trembling reverence, he was chosen to receive what remained after prayer was exhausted. His disease did not flee. It rearranged itself. Wounds closed only to preserve the vessel, not to spare it. Growth followed, slow and inevitable, until the Fleshbound Communicator became a living testament to excess faith endured rather than celebrated, a monument of suffering and unyielding devotion, scarred yet eternal, a figure whose silence spoke louder than hymns.
His sight was surrendered as an offering. Iron signs were driven through ruined eyes so that no created image might stand between him and the unseen. He walks guided by cadence and memory, by the echo of prayer and the tolling of bells bound to his burdened weapon. He does not behold the world; he measures it by nearness to the path and obedience to it. His steps are heavy, yet they resound with a rhythm that binds the procession together, reminding all who follow that faith is not escape but endurance.
In battle, the Fleshbound Communicator advances at the heart of the procession. Fire, iron, and fear gather around him, yet he does not hasten nor halt. He exists to affirm that the pilgrimage continues, that the covenant still weighs upon flesh. He is neither miracle nor punishment. He is endurance given form, a body that has learned it will not be released, a living covenant carved into mortal substance, a reminder that devotion is both burden and crown.
“I was sealed with grace, and still I was required to walk.”
And so his presence became more than symbol—it was a rhythm of survival, a cadence of faith that refused to fracture. Those who faltered found strength in his silence, those who doubted found terror in his persistence. He bore the relics not as treasures but as anchors, each weight binding him deeper into the covenant. His voice, when it came, was not speech but resonance, a vibration through the bones of the faithful, reminding them that endurance itself was sacred. He was the scar made flesh, the hymn without words, the covenant embodied in suffering, and the procession could not continue without his burdened stride.
